Welcome to #selfiethrone!!!
Hey, I'm Kat Wilson!
Artist. Photographer. Founder of Party Art and #SelfieThrone, where everyone becomes part of the art.
It started in 2008 with a taxidermied rodeo bull my dad found in a warehouse. I patched it up, he welded it to a trailer, and I towed it through parades. People climbed on, snapped pics, and the idea sparked.
Fast forward to grad school… The song #Selfie dropped, and suddenly people weren’t listening to me at shoots like they used to. I flipped the script. I decided to let people take their own damn photos, but I controlled the light, the vibe, and the scene.
The first #SelfieThrones were sculptural offshoots of my photographic series Habitats. As my ideas outgrew my skills, the installations evolved and expanded through performance and collaboration with other makers. As the crowds grew, it became clear: everyone wanted to play a part in the art. That’s when Party Art was born.
Today, I build full-immersive photo experiences with actors, makers, and neon benders. My cult of “selfieologists” guide the moment, take your pic, and remind you how beautiful you are.
The result is a spectacle. Your guests become the art. And their feeds do the marketing for you.
Museums. Cities. Festivals. It is spreading.
Come love yourself. The #SelfieThrone is waiting.
What is #selfiethrone?
SelfieThrone is my open-access spin on my Habitats series. It’s an interactive art project that blends photography, sculpture, and performance to explore the blurry line between self-empowerment and self-obsession in the age of social media. I build each throne using various materials like neon, projection mapping, and customized objects, then step away from my usual role as photographer and invite anyone passing by to create their own spectacle of beauty and grandeur with their phone. Playful and dynamic, #SelfieThrone is my way of redefining portraiture for Instagram culture, shifting the power from artist to participant and celebrating that messy dance between ego and self-love.
How It Started-----> How It's Going

" The foundation of Party Art is that the artistic vision is brought to life through engaging a diverse group of participants in an act of art. "
How do I bring a #selfiethrone to my festival?
Let's talk about your vision and budget. Every #selfiethrone is custom-built to reflect your space, your theme, and your people. I work with festivals, museums, and cities ready to turn their crowd into a living, breathing performance.
You bring the audience. I'll bring the build, the spectacle, and the Selfieologists.

How do I bring a #selfiethrone to my museum or art gallery?
This is the quieter side of the movement. Each #SelfieThrone is a sculptural installation—carefully curated objects, layered symbolism, and a scene designed for reflection and self-image.
Selfieologists can join for opening night if you want the commotion, or let the audience be part of the art on their own.
Let’s talk about your budget, space, and audience.

Confetti #selfiethrone for small budgets?
Small budgets happen, but we’re still bringing the Party Art. The Confetti #SelfieThrone uses confetti cannons, and I personally light and photograph each participant. It’s a crowd magnet and a social media goldmine. Our selfieologists keep it fun when the cannons pop and the lights flash. It’s a beautiful mess, well worth it, but your team has to clean it up.

How do I bring a #selfiethrone to my school?
Young people can absolutely be part of the Party Art in a way that’s creative, safe, and full of good clean fun. I work with students to shape the concept, build the throne, and turn it into a schoolwide moment. Once it’s ready, we unleash it for the photo ops.
You can keep it up for everyone to take their own pictures, or we can tap the kids who love performing and give them the full Selfieologist experience. I’ll plan materials with you ahead of time and make sure everything fits your school’s safety needs. We can build in a single day or stretch it into a two or three day art adventure.
